Sneak peek - "N" family

Yesterday afternoon the sky cleared up just long enough for me to meet up with this fun, cute family for a little photo session. They are clearly totally in love with each other, and they ran, played and explored in between shots. Big brother was my perfect little model, posing, smiling, and hamming for the camera. This week, I had the most fun doing a maternity session that I've ever had. I had the pleasure of capturing a special time for a person who is really special to ME - my sister and her wee baby tater-tot. We went downtown for some funky urban fun, and then at sunset we hit this gorgeous grassy field. No matter what we did, she looks absolutely gorgeous, and was a very easy subject to photograph! Anyways, enjoy the sneak peek! :)

Sweet mom-to-be

Yesterday I met up with a woman I have known for awhile, I photographed her beautiful daughter back when I was first starting my business. Now her daughter has grown into a gorgeous toddler, and they're adding to their family! Mom looked beautiful and glowing, and it was a blast capturing this special time for their family. Sneak peek - Mr. L

Last week, my family and I headed up north to visit family and friends and I couldn't resist squeezing in a session. The little town I grew up in is so beautiful, it was easy to find a perfect setting for photos. Meet Mr. L, my very serious 9 year old client. He wouldn't smile for anything, but I don't think that mattered too much....isn't he GORGEOUS? He's definitely child-model material. Meet Mr. Murphy!

My sister Jada has the BEST surprise for her boyfriend Robert for his birthday. A bulldog pup! Jada took me out to the kennels to meet him early. Meet Mr. Murphy, a 6 week bulldog puppy. Murphy is the only boy pup from his litter, and absolutely the sweetest! He gets to come home and surprise Robert this Friday....so exciting!

It was an absolutely beautiful day today, and I got to meet up with the "B" family at Ed MacGregor park in Sooke for a photo session. They were the high bidders on my portrait package in the Sooke Preschool Silent Auction. So thank you again for supporting the preschool! Today the forecast was for rain, rain, rain and we were worried that this session wasn't going to be able to happen. To our delight, the sky cleared and we had a perfectly beautiful, warm, sunny, clear day. Little baby D had so much fun running, and I had to chase her to get the majority of my shots....that is, until she found a nice mud puddle to jump into! Thanks for today, R family! Remember the gorgeous mom from the maternity session? Today I got to meet her beautiful baby girl. Miss C is just 9 days old. She pooped and peed on every single blanket I had, AND my shirt, and then woke up and refused to go to sleep for ANYTHING, but it was all worth it! Just as I was taking a shot, sweet C smiled at the camera and totally made my year by giving me one of my favorite images to date. I had a wonderful time photographing her, and look forward to photographing her again and again as she grows!! :)

Mother's Day, May 10th!!

Moms are famous for snapping about a million pictures of their children each year. And in how many of those photos do the moms actually appear? I look through our photo albums and there are maybe two or three images of my kids that actually have me in them! Today I had the pleasure of photographing probably the most adorable pregnant woman I have ever seen. This yoga mama was totally comfy and cute in her PJs, and she wasn't shy about baring her beautiful bump.

Since I am no longer doing client sessions until the new year, I want to share a few of my sweet baby. She's 15 months old now, but when she sleeps, she looks just like she did when I brought her home. I feel like it's a fight against time to capture all these tiny bitty baby pieces because she's not going to be little for very much longer.

I had such a blast photographing this little beauty on Sunday morning! The sun was shining and the rain cleared up just for us. It turned out to be a beautiful day, and Miss K had so much fun running - FAST! - and falling into the mud. She kept her mom and dad hopping, that's for sure! Sneak Peek - Little Mr "H"

This shoot was so much fun! Mr "H" is around the same age as my own Baby-O, but way more talkative and outgoing. He chatted and shrieked and had a blast running all over the park. He also has two parents who are totally in love with him, as you can clearly tell in the photos, and I really enjoyed talking with them. So what did we end up with from this shoot? Three rocks eaten, ha ha, one scraped knee, one bruised forehead and a bunch of awesome shots. Thanks again, you three!

and I had to throw this one on the preview. I didn't even notice until my husband pointed it out...check out the thumbs up!! Ha ha!

This solemn little guy was so amazing to photograph because of his big, sparkly, brown eyes. He was pretty serious and took a little while to warm up to the camera...at least until we got outside and he was excited to show me his yard, and most importantly, his beloved red wagon. Baby "L" is the youngest baby I have photographed thus far, and he was absolutely perfect! He let us move him around the house placing him in baskets and on tables, and he slept through it all. Dad really wanted a few open-eyed pictures but baby was so sleepy, he couldn't stay awake. :) PS...I did get a few open-eyed pictures, you'll see!!

I had so much fun photographing this adorable little red-head and her family. When I put her in the tutu, she must have liked the way the wind felt, because she ran non-stop with her arms out. Mr "Z" is the oldest child, besides my own, that I have had the pleasure to photograph. It's much different photographing an older child than it is photographing a baby! I had to chase him all around and play tons of games in order to coax a few smiles out of this guy. He was really interested in my camera and even snapped a few shots himself. He was pretty fun to hang out with! I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Baby "C" was the youngest baby I have had the pleasure of photographing yet, and she made my job incredibly easy! She stared into the camera with her gorgeous baby blues and then fell asleep peacefully in mommy's arms, allowing me to capture some of those amazing, new-baby squishy-face photos I love so much. And after she was asleep, mom and I placed her all over the house for photos, and she didn't wake up!! I also had a blast with Baby "C"s mom, who was friendly and fun to chat with. I could not have photographed a happier baby, she smiled all afternoon and made my job incredibly easy. Tiny Dream

Practice

I have my very first practice shoot ever coming up this weekend, with a 10 month old little boy. I am excited, but EXTREMELY nervous!! I have lost sleep over this, I am so nervous. I am posing a little boy I have never met in my dreams, hahaha! Anyways, since Baby-O is also 10 months old, I figured I would practice and practice on her all week to get into the groove. Turns out, Baby-O doesn't want to help. She has the sniffles, she's totally miserable and she DOESN'T want her picture taken! I chased her around for an hour this morning and got ONE picture where she's not giving me a growl, crying at me, or crawling in the opposite direction. Let's hope the little man I photograph this weekend is more cooperative than my own baby!!

Little Moments

Every parent probably feels this way when they looks back at the photographs of their children. I love the pictures where I get eye contact, where you can see how much they're growing, where they are showing off their accomplishments, their new haircut or their new toy. I love the ones I get of them grinning cheesily or waving at the camera, or doing bunny ears behind daddy's head. But the photos that truly move me are the ones that tell a story when I look back at them. Like one I have of Bud's squishy baby face sleeping on my knee. Or this one, of Baby-O last week after her bath. We were playing Peek-A-Boo with the towel and I caught a snap of her just as she popped out to surprise me. It's amazing how those little things with your kids will literally move you to tears. Being a mom is such a roller coaster!

NILMDTS

Last month I applied to be a volunteer photographer with an organization that I hold really close to my heart, Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep http://nowilaymedowntosleep.org/ . I just received an email stating that I have been accepted as an affiliated photographer. I am very proud to be a part of this wonderful organization. I decided to apply to volunteer after a dear friend of mine lost her baby at 40 weeks; on her due date she found that her daughter, Nora, no longer had a heartbeat. It impacted me and everyone she knew greatly; I still think about Nora and my friend every day. This organization means a lot to me because it's a way to give back to Nora and thank her for everything she has taught me about life, in just her short time. She has inspired me to be a better mother, a better friend, and a better person in general.

If you are reading my blog and you're a professional photographer, or an advanced amateur, I urge you to check out the website and see what you can do to help. You were given a talent for a reason!

Last weekend with Grampa

This weekend my dad came to visit. We played tourist in our own city and showed him around. It was a blast!

Of course, when Grampa comes to visit, we HAVE to go to McDonalds. :)

Later, we went down to the Marina to feed the seals and take a walk on the docks.

I luckily caught a really neat and colorful shot of some kayakers going out into the water.

I managed to get one last amazing shot before the sun went down for the day.

Playing Outside

Tonite after dinner, I dragged the family outside to play in the low light. I wanted to practice grabbing some sun flares. Of the 7 pictures that Baby-O would allow of me, this was the best I got.

NOT loving how the sun is flaring out of J's pit instead of between them, like I was going for, but like I said, this was the best of the bunch.

After the sun flare shots, Bud wanted to get in on the photographic action. Bud: "Mom, take a picture of me with this leaf on my head!" Me: "You're ASKING me to take a picture of you?" Bud: "Quick, before it falls!" Me: Snap! Snap! Snap!

I thought this one was adorable.

Daisy Crown

While my mom was here visiting, the weather gave us a few beautiful days. We went out to play in the grass, and my mom made Baby-O this adorable daisy crown. I couldn't resist but snap a bunch of shots of her. How sweet is a baby surrounded by flowers?

Saying Good-bye

Things have been so hectic since our move, I haven't had time to go through alot of pictures that I took in the past few months. I dug up and found a few gems.

This was the day my father had to say good-bye to us. I can see the emotion in his face in these shots, and it makes me well up.

This is how Baby-O gives kisses. She reaches up and strokes your face, or holds her tiny sweet hand out to you.

First touch of spring

Childhood

We went for a walk to explore some of the surroundings of our new home. This was a beautiful scenic path leading to a gorgeous rocky beach, complete with sunset. Bub was so excited to just be able to run free, he actually threw his head and arms back and just ran with the wind blowing in his face. I just love this shot. I think it perfectly describes "childhood" and all of it's beauty.
